Seasoned Firewood, Green Firewood, and Kiln Dried Firewood

Purchasing

We recommend buying firewood as early in the season as possible. This gives the wood some time after being delivered to dry before burning. This allows the moisture that is trapped in the wood to escape from being stored in large piles.

Green Firewood

This contains high moisture content. We recommend aging the split firewood for approximately 9 months minimum for it to dry out enough to be burned efficiently.

Seasoned Firewood

This is mostly ready to burn soon after being stacked and stored in a dry area. Some pieces may require a little extra time due to the species of wood or due to pockets in the pile that did not get enough sun and air while being stored in larger piles. The heavier pieces will be the ones that should be given a little extra time. We screen and rotate the wood to allow sun and air to get to it before shipping. Excessive rain could cause firewood to need a little extra time to dry. This is surface moisture and does not cause the inside of the wood to become unseasoned.

Kiln Dried

We have access to a large quantity of kiln-dried wood, but we are limited in how much we can get without planning accordingly. The wait time will depend on how many orders we have in front of us. Ideally, it is the same or the following week. 

Loading

We sell our wood as loose firewood. This means it is loaded with a machine and measured by the cubic foot of the bucket. A loose cord measures 190 cubic feet and is equivalent to a stacked cord that measures 128 cubic feet.

Storing

Proper stacking and storing of firewood is important. Green and Seasoned Wood are ideally stored in the sun to allow air to flow through it as much as possible. Kiln Dried Wood should ideally be stored inside to keep any moisture from being pulled back into the wood. 

Size

The firewood is cut to 16″ lengths but it can vary in length a little. If you have any limitations on size, we can custom cut most any size upon request.
